The Halesite Fire Department responded to a commercial building fire at 175 East Main Street Monday, June 23, at 8:27 p.m. The two-story professional building housed doctors offices and medical practices. Nearly 100 firefighters from Halesite, Huntington, Huntington Manor, Centerport and Greenlawn fire departments battled the blaze using 12 trucks. Firefighters from Cold Spring Harbor and Melville provided standby coverage for Halesite and Huntington during the alarm. The fire was brought under control in about 1-1/2 hours, led by Halesite Fire Chief Dan McConnell, and Assistant Chiefs Greg Colonna and Jamie Magerle. The blaze damaged six second floor offices, and caused smoke and water damage to parts of the building. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating. Suffolk Fire-Rescue Coordinators were also dispatched to the scene. PSE&G and National Grid were requested to respond and secure the utilities. The fire caused the closure of Route 25A in both directions.
