Dog Alerts Family to Huntington House Fire

The Huntington Fire Department credits the family dog to alerting a sleeping couple and their son of a raging fire at their home on Dumbarton Drive in Huntington, Monday morning, August 4, at about 1:40 a.m. Volunteers from Huntington Fire Department arrived to find a heavy fire condition in the two-story cape home with flames shooting through the roof. Huntington firefighters  began an aggressive attack on the fire and were assisted by crews from Halesite, Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington Manor and Greenlawn fire departments. Nearly 50 firefighters using seven trucks battled the blaze which was brought under control within 1-1/2 hours. Firefighters were on the scene until about 4 a.m. overhauling and dousing hot spots. Units were under the command of Chief Robert Berry, assisted by Deputy Chiefs Jesse Cukro and Robert Conroy. There were no injuries reported and the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating.
