Dix Hills FD Battles Second House Fire This Week

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a fire that extensively damaged a vacant house on Carriage Court, Sunday morning, May 31, 2015, at about 6:30 a.m. This was the second major house fire that the Dix Hills FD handled in the last week. Nearly 50 volunteer firefighters battled the blaze using five trucks and had the fire knocked down within a half-hour, under the command of Chief Robert Fling, and operations by Assistant Chiefs Tom Napolitano and Joe Williamson. The Melville Fire Department assisted at the scene, while the Deer Park and Greenlawn fire departments provided standby coverage. The Dix Hills Rescue Squad was on the scene with ambulances, rehab, paramedic and first responder units for EMS support. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating. This was the 13th major house fire that the Dix Hills Fire Department has responded to this year.
