Grant Program to Fund Placemaking Projects in Huntington Station
Get Involve Shape the Station
Huntington Station, NY- Source the Station recently announced the stationsix grant program, one of the latest initiatives that are part of the Huntington Station revitalization. In summer 2012 Renaissance Downtowns, the Master Developer, and the Town of Huntington signed a public-private partnership for the revitalization of Huntington Station. Since then, Source the Station has been coordinating community outreach and participation, economic development, placemaking through events and programming, and more to help move forward revitalization efforts and ensure that the future of downtown Huntington Station is vibrant, walkable, triple-bottom-line and welcoming to all!
The stationsix grants, up to $2000 each month, are named for the six priority areas for downtown revitalization, chosen by members of the Huntington Station community through a public survey, and leveraged by future Renaissance Downtowns development. The initiatives include arts, entertainment, & creative culture; local business development; nature, environment, & beautification; cross-generational engagement; public safety; and food & dining. Each of the six initiatives has a $250 grant allocated to it, with one $500 grant overall, which could encompass several and/or all initiatives.
More than ten projects have already been funded, including a community mural painted at the Fairground Bazaar, Tango Nights at La Hacienda, the Huntington Station Spring Clean Up, Beautification at the corner of Lowndes and New York Ave, Beautification and Plant Labeling at Gateway Plaza, Beautification at Carmen Calixto Laas Corner, a poetry pole and more, all of which can be found at sourcethestation.com/grants.
The grant application process, sourcethestation.com/grants, is simple. You need to be a Source the Station member, the idea must fall under one of the stationsix initiatives, it must be implementable within 60 days of receiving the grant, and the idea needs to be posted on the Source the Station website so it can receive 15 likes for the $250 grant and 25 likes for the $500 grant so that there is community support for the project.
Source the Station is an initiative to ensure that the future of the Huntington Station downtown is vibrant, inspiring and representative of its community’s shared values, based on the triple bottom line of being economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
Our approach is a transparent and inclusionary process, in partnership with Renaissance Downtowns, that allows community members to participate in an innovative crowdsourced placemaking program to realize the downtown they wish to experience.
Everyone interested in taking action to make a difference in the Huntington Station community is encouraged to become a member [sourcethestation.com/register] and apply!
