Local Huntington High School Student Creates Tutoring Service to Raise Money for Long Island’s Toys of Hope Charity

“Tutoring For A Cause”

Noah Helburn, a junior and honors student at Huntington High School, has launched a tutoring service in which he tutors third through eighth graders in science, math and social studies.  Noah tutors in exchange for a suggested donation of $20 per hour of tutoring given directly to Toys of Hope, a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization.  100% of all donations goes directly toward helping needy and homeless families, children and their pets.

Noah, a recent transplant to Huntington from Westchester, NY, created this program as a way to connect with and support his new community.  Going well above and beyond the Huntington High School community service requirement, Noah intends to tutor for the entirety of his junior year with the goal of raising over $1,000.   He has named his service, “Tutoring For A Cause.”

Noah says, “I recently moved to Huntington from Northern Westchester.  I wanted to become part of the community for my last two years of high school and what better way to do this than to help children, families, and pets in need.  Toys of Hope is a great charity where every dollar raised goes directly to benefit the people it serves.  I wanted to put my heart into something that will help others, and help me set down roots in my new home.  I’ve been very lucky growing up in a supportive home and I wanted to help those who have not been as fortunate.”

Noah is currently accepting students to tutor through this program.  If you know of a third through eighth grader who could benefit from Noah’s tutoring and in turn help some of the thousands of people Toys of Hope serves, contact Noah at  tutoringforagoodcause@gmail.com or call 631-424-3503.

Founded in 1994 by Melissa Doktofsky, Toys of Hope is a year-round organization based on Long Island, which provides desperately needed goods and services to over 65,000 needy, underprivileged and homeless children and their families and their pets from Montauk to Manhattan.

Unlike other charities, Toys of Hope provides everyday essentials, new bedding and towels, new clothing and shoes to families in addition to toys and does so beyond the holiday season.  In addition, Toys of Hope relies solely on volunteers to accomplish its mission. 100% of all funds contributed goes toward helping needy and homeless children, their families and their pets. There are no paid employees.

Known for “More Than Toys,” the charity has created many programs that provide goods and services to assist families in becoming self-sufficient and, in turn, helping to improve their children’s lives.  The principle guiding Toys of Hope’s mission is that all children, regardless of their financial status, race, religion or nationality, are deserving of those things that can help give them a happier life.  A new toy can mean everything to a needy or homeless child. It provides fun and enjoyment and gives a child a sense of pride in having something of their very own.

Toys of Hope is a non-profit corporation registered with the State of New York and the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization. Contributions are tax deductible. For further information, see www.toysofhope.org.
