Elwood Track Team Named League 5 champs
For the first time in Elwood-John H. Glenn High School history, the Girls Winter Track team won the Section XI Girls Winter Track League 5 Championship Title on Jan. 21 at Suffolk County Community College.
Coached by Patrick Burke and Kevin Lavey, the team competed against 11 other high school teams and ended with a top score of 138. To win the competition, the team had to have a perfect meet. Elwood had 16 Personal Bests during the meet, which was the deciding factor in the major win.
“Each girl on the team has put in a tremendous amount of time and effort throughout the entire season and all that hard work paid off,” said Patrick Burke. “I am so proud of this team and honored to coach them every day.”
In addition to the coaching staff, the district was thrilled for this historic win for the high school.
“Congratulations to this great group of young ladies for their hard work and to our coaching staff for creating a culture of respect and winning attitude,” said Director of Athletics and Physical Education David Shanahan.
