Huntington Young Republicans Launch Student of the Month Program
The Huntington Young Republicans launched their Student of the Month Program on February 25, 2017. In the age of technology, social media, and the internet boom there has undoubtedly been a decline in civic engagement. Many have no interest in getting involved in civic associations or contacting their elected officials. The Huntington Young Republicans are taking matters into their own hands by empowering and educating young professionals everyday on the importance of being in tune with what is going on in the community.
This prompted the launch of one of their newest programs: Student of the Month. The organization recognized Christopher Arthur, a freshman at Walt Whitman High School as their first recipient who stated, “I am honored to have been named the first ever HYR Student of the Month.” Christopher is excelling academically in his first year of high school and is on the Walt Whitman High School Cross Country, Winter Track, and Spring Track teams. Additionally, he plays saxophone for the high school band. Ultimately, Christopher is working towards going to college and medical school to become a plastic surgeon. Sam Bifulco, President of the Huntington Young Republicans Club explained, “engaging the youth of our community is imperative to keeping millennials on Long Island and that engagement should start as early as possible. I want to congratulate Christopher on being honored as our first Student of the Month and I am confident he will go on to be a very successful individual in the Huntington Community.”
