Melville Fire Department Battles Brush Fire

The Melville Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Holly Court, Friday, April 14, 2017, at about 2 p.m. Two engines, a brush truck and two ambulances were dispatched, under the command of Assistant Chiefs Chris Nolan and David Kaplan. The fire burned a 50×25 foot area between two houses in close proximity to the blaze.

The fire was extinguished in 40 minutes with no damage to either home, due to the quick response of Melville firefighters. The fire was believed to be accidental and caused by children playing with sparklers. Melville firefighters also handled a brush fire earlier in the week on Tuesday, April 11, on Sweet Hollow Road which burned a 75×75 foot area. With the warmer temperatures and dryer conditions, residents are urged to use caution and practice fire safety outdoors around wooded areas.
