Whitman Winter Color Guard Honored May 1, 2017
On April 2, 2017 the Walt Whitman High School Indoor Color Guard competed in the USBands Indoor Championships at South Brunswick High School in Monmouth Junction, NJ. The ensemble placed 1st and won the title of 2017 Scholastic Novice Color Guard Champions. This year’s show was entitled “Rise Up”. It included music from Andra Day and was accompanied by a poem titled “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou. The show portrayed a powerful message to continue to persevere regardless of the struggles that you may face.
The Indoor Color Guard was honored for their Championship title at the recent Suffolk County Legislator meeting. Legislators Lou D’Amaro and Steve Stern presented each student with proclamations. They highlighted that the Indoor Color Guard is a newly established program at the high school and praised the ensemble for receiving a championship title while performing for the first time at the indoor championships.
