Cassie and Maggie, Nova Scotia-based Sibling Duo, Perform on LI

Cassie and Maggie, an acclaimed young sibling Celtic roots duo from Nova Scotia, will be the featured act during the Folk Music Society of Huntington’s monthly First Saturday Concerts series on May 6, 2017. The 8:30 p.m. concert at the Congregational Church of Huntington (30 Washington Drive, off Route 25A, Centerport) is preceded by an open mic at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, priced at $25 ($20 for FMSH members), may be purchased in advance online at www.fmsh.org, using a credit card, or at the door (cash and checks only).

Called “Exciting and innovative” (Trad. Connect), Cassie and Maggie MacDonald have been enchanting audiences far and wide with their infectious energy, driving rhythms and lilting melodies. While still staying true to their Nova Scotia Celtic roots, they have explored and tested the boundaries of traditional music — bringing a breath of fresh air to the genre with their original compositions and arrangements.

Equally at home playing tunes passed down through generations of musicians, as seamlessly weaving themes from the Moonlight Sonata into sets of sure-fire reels, Cassie and Maggie have been entertaining and winning over audiences wherever they go. They “are among the top musical acts in demand on the Irish/Americana/Canadian scene,” according to Irish Music Magazine. “Be it their foot percussion accompanying driving Nova Scotian sets, their perfect blend of sibling harmonies, added to a stunning interplay on various instruments, a musical evening spent with Cassie and Maggie is a great night, altogether.”

Named as Live Ireland Radio’s New Group and Female Vocalists of the Year, as well as Galaxie Radio Rising Stars, and Emerging Artists of the Year by Chicago’s Irish American News, Cassie and Maggie have also been nominees for numerous other awards. “They offer the perfect sibling blend,” writes Irish American News. “There is so much that goes on in each of their tunes and great live performances, it is easy to miss their beautifully offered harmonies. Perfection.”

Cassie and Maggie (www.cassieandmaggie.com) have graced stages across Canada and Europe and made forays into the U.S., where they impressed audiences at the Milwaukee Irish Festival and the Philadelphia Folk Festival, among others. This will be their Long Island debut.

Now in its 49th year, the Folk Music Society of Huntington presents two monthly concert series, a monthly folk jam, and an annual folk festival each summer in conjunction with the Huntington Arts Council.
