Dix Hills Fire Department Battles House Fire On Grey Birch Court

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a house fire on Grey Birch Court, Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 7:40 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find an active fire in the attic and den below.  Crews began an aggressive attack on the smoky blaze, and had the fire under control within 20 minutes. The homeowner, an elderly woman, was transported to Huntington Hospital with smoke inhalation by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad.

About 70  firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded with six trucks, four ambulances, rehab and paramedic units, under the direction of Chief Tom Napolitano and Assistant Chiefs Joe Williamson and Brett Tepe. The Huntington Manor and Melville fire departments assisted at the scene, while Greenlawn firefighters and Commack ambulance crews provided standby coverage for Dix Hills during the alarm. Also activated to respond was the Huntington Cyanide Response Team of paramedics from Dix Hills, Greenlawn, and East Northport fire departments and Commack Ambulance corps. Suffolk County Fire-Rescue Coordinators were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Huntington Town Fire Marshal and Suffolk Police Arson Squad.
