Fire Devastates Gunther’s Tap Room in Northport
The Northport Fire Department responded to a fire at Gunther’s Tap Room on Main Street in Northport Village, Tuesday morning, May 23, 2017 at about 7 a.m. Over 60 firefighters battled the blaze from the Northport, Centerport, East Northport, Kings Park, Greenlawn and Eaton’s Neck fire departments. The blaze was was brought under control within an hour, under the command of Chief Brad Wine and Assistant Chiefs John Jacobsen and Dennis Sheridan.
Five people living in apartments above Gunther’s were safely evacuated by Northport Police and Northport firefighter Jake Milliken who spotted the fire while driving by and called in the alarm. Three firefighters, two from Northport and one from Kings Park, suffered minor injuries and were transported to Huntington Hospital and St. Catherine’s Hospital. The fire which gutted the bar, is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Northport Fire Marshal. Suffolk Fire-Rescue Coordinators, Emergency Management and the American Red Cross were on the scene to provide assistance with relocating displaced residents.
