RAIA CO-SPONSORED BOATER SAFETY LEGISLATION PASSES

Tuesday evening, the New York State Assembly passed Assembly Bill 2336, which will reduce boaters liability insurance for individuals who complete boating safety courses. Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C,Ref-East Northport), an author and co-sponsor of this legislation, said that incentivizing boaters to participate in regular or advanced safety courses will create a safer and more enjoyable boating experience for all participants.

“We want to reward those who go out of their way to take these classes, and ensure they are taking the necessary steps to be as safe as possible out on the water,” said Raia. “Much like defensive driving courses, the completion of these boater safety courses will not only teach our boaters the precautions they should be taking out on the water, but will help lower the cost associated with insuring their craft. The goal is a safe boating environment for all, and this legislation assists in creating an environment where that is possible.”

With the help of Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Raia was able to garner support for passage of the legislation in the Assembly, and he is working with Sen. Kenneth Lavalle to ensure its passage in the Senate.
