Large Blaze Doused By Dix Hills Fire Department on LIE

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a car fire on the Long Island Expressway in the westbound lanes, just west of Commack Road at around 7pm on July 4, 2017. Three engines and two ambulances were dispatched and under the direction of Assistant Chiefs Joe Williamson and Brett Tepe. Firefighters used 750 gallons of water and foam to extinguish the blaze, which was intensified when the gas tank ruptured. There were no injuries reported.
