Woman Arrested for Stealing Lizards from Selmer’s Pet Land
Suffolk County Police today arrested a Mount Sinai woman for stealing four pet lizards from a Huntington Station, New York pet store in August.
A woman entered Selmer’s Pet Land, located at 125 East Jericho Turnpike, on August 23, 2017 at approximately 1 p.m. with her twin 14-year-old sons. She cut open the top screen of a reptile enclosure and removed four bearded dragons. The woman then left the store without paying for the reptiles, which had a value of $1,100.

A surveillance photo of the incident was released to the media and numerous Crime Stoppers tips were received identifying the suspect. Following an investigation by Second Precinct Crime Section officers and Second Squad detectives, Anisa Escobar was arrested.
Escobar, 46, of Mount Sinai, was charged with Grand Larceny 4th Degree and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. A notification was made to Suffolk County Child Protective Services. Escobar is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip today.
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
