Two Women Arrested For Robbing Commack Gas Station – Speedway

Suffolk County Police have arrested two women who robbed a Commack, New York, gas station early this morning.

Amber Edey and Cassandra Cruz entered the Speedway convenience store, located at 1173 Jericho Turnpike, wearing ski masks and gloves at approximately 3:10 a.m. Cruz went behind the counter and demanded cash while Edey motioned as if she had a gun in the pocket of her hooded sweatshirt. The employee opened the register and Cruz removed cash from the drawer. Both of the women fled on foot.

Suffolk County Police Aviation Section and Canine Section officers responded and a local broadcast was sent out. Fourth Precinct Police Officer Christopher Freisem located Edey on Apple Lane in Commack and took her into custody.  Fourth Precinct Police Officer Johncarlo Justincic arrested Cruz at the Commack Motor Inn, located at 2231 Jericho Turnpike, Commack.


Fourth Squad detectives charged Edey, 24, of 43 Ketcham Ave., Amityville, NY, with Robbery 2nd Degree. Cruz, 31, of 147 West Hampton Road, Lindenhurst, was charged with Robbery 2nd Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Radio Device, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7 and an outstanding warrant for Petit Larceny.


Edey and Cruz are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 14, 2017.


A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
