Melville Fire Department Responds to Major Route 110 Crash

Melville Fire Department volunteers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Broad Hollow Road (Route 110) between Spagnoli Road and Ruland Road on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at around 8:10 p.m. Melville fire rescue personnel arrived to find a Nissan Altima that was ripped apart after striking a tree with two injured victims. The female passenger suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital by Suffolk Police medivac helicopter.

The male driver was transported to Huntington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries by Melville Rescue Squad ambulance. About 25 Melville firefighters and emergency medical personnel were on the scene with three ambulances, two engines and a heavy rescue truck. Units were under the direction of Chiefs Chris Nolan, Dave Kaplan and Bill Schmitt. The East Farmingdale Fire Department assisted Melville crews secure the helicopter landing zone at Farmingdale College.
