Ariella’s New York Friendship Circle Kicks Off New Programs For 2018-2019
Ariella’s New York Friendship Circle, which, through various classes and programs, aims to not only educate, but also create meaningful relationships between children and teens with and without special needs, has announced the 2018-2019 program schedule. Registration for volunteers and participants as well as detailed information on all programs is available online at www.nyfriendshipcircle.com.
All activities, which are open to those of all abilities, take place at The Chai Center, 501 Vanderbilt Parkway, Dix Hills, NY. In addition to returning programs such as Hip Hop, Puppy Fun, Teen Scene and Yoga, this year The NY Friendship Circle is introducing three new classes:
- Community Musical Theater Program, Sundays 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.(FREE): The Friendship Circle and the Lerner Social Competence and Treatment Lab are teaming up to bring an inclusive theatrical production to the community. This program will improve socialization and build friendships, and is open to all. Everyone will be included in the show. Rehearsals will be on Sundays, 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., on the following days: Sept. 30, Oct. 14, 21, 28, Nov. 4, 18, Dec. 2, 9, 16, Jan. 6, 13. Performance Date: TBA.
*Although anyone, 12 and over, is welcome to participate, due to the special nature of this program, participants must be pre-registered with The Friendship Circle and have a phone screening before attending.
- Music Class, Mondays, 5:00 – 5:45p.m.$75/six-week course:Music can elicit response and change while promoting growth and wellness. Music has been clinically proven to have long lasting effects and impact on social and cognitive development through early childhood intervention, special education and beyond. The program will be run by Lauren Klimek, owner of Long Island Music Therapy Services, Inc., who is a board certified and licensed music therapist and has dedicated her clinical practice to serving the special needs population. Dates: Oct. 15, 22, 29, Nov. 5, 19, 26. Aged 5+
- Computer Coding Class: Tuesdays,5:30-6:30 p.m.(FREE): Participants will learn how to code, starting with the basics and working at one’s own pace. Instructor Emily Sobel has one goal: to teach each individual this wonderful skill in the most fun and exciting way possible. For ages 10 and older. Oct. 9, 16, 23, 30 and Nov. 6, 13
Ariella’s NY Friendship Circle is a 501(c) (3) charity. Teen volunteers have helped make the NY Friendship Circle a safe place for children of all abilities to be themselves, be accepted and be valued for who they are on the inside. It is also a place where every one of all abilities can learn new things in an integrated setting.
