Town Board Expenses: Update

This statement, which was received as part of our FOIL request from the Town, was misleading:

1) Instead of receiving a town-issued cell phone, Mark Cuthbertson and Glenda Jackson opted to receive a monthly stipend to be applied toward the cost of using their personal cell phones for Town business (other Town officials have made the same choice and receive the same stipend). Susan Berland has a Town-issued cell phone that is used for Town business (as do some other Town officials who carry two cell phones: one for town business and our personal ones).
We just learned that Mark Mayoka does not have a Town issued cell phone and he does not receive any reimbursements toward his personal cell phone.  We want to thank Mark Mayoka for being fiscally responsible and considerate of the the struggling  tax payer.  He is the only councilperson who does this. These are very difficult economic times for most people. We appreciate every effort that saves money for the residents of Huntington.

  1. Nobody calls him so why should he accept phone reimbursement?

  2. To Wundaboy: I guess it’s all in your perspective. I find Mark Cuthbertson to be the least approachable of all the councilpeople. His cell phone bills cost the tax payer over $5000 during the period we FOIL’ed for. I find Mark Mayoka to be the most approachable, but that would make sense because I make no secret out of the fact that I believe the other 4 councilpeople have failed us miserably.
After shedding light on this, I would hope that the councilpeople vote to take away the cell phone stipend. There is an option to have a Town owned cell phone. I say, take it or leave it.

  3. Good point Ilene. Probably better not to co-mingle personal and business use of a cell phone or any other expense for that matter.
