Shop Local to Support Small Business

The Town of Huntington and the Huntington Chamber of Commerce proudly sponsor the first ever town-wide Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday follows the busiest shopping day of the year, known as Black Friday.

It is our intention to assist small businesses, within our area by bringing shoppers ‘back into the storefront,’ in order to stimulate economic development during these challenging financial times. In 2010, over 1 million people around the world were involved with Small Business Saturday,  a day that recognizes the importance of small businesses in the overall economy and to local communities.

Small Businesses represent 99.7% of all employer firms and have generated 65% of net new jobs in the United States over the past 17 years (SBA.gov). They employ just over half of all private sector employees. For every $100 spent at a local small business, on average, $68 will return to our local community through payroll, taxes and other expenditures. Simply put, a large percentage of money spent at small businesses is reinvested back into the local economy.

Our goal is to aid the community by increasing small business within the Town of Huntington.

On November 26th, a Small Business Saturday Coupon will be available for use at participating small local merchants within the Town of Huntington.

Additionally American Express is giving a one-time $25 statement credit to Card members who register their card for the Small Business Saturday offer. Registrants who use that card to spend $25 or more at a participating small business on November 26th, will receive $25 dollars off of that expenditure.

The following is a partial list of  participating businesses.  We will have further updates as additional businesses are added.

One Response to Shop Local to Support Small Business

  1. Supporting local businesses is a good thing. However when those same businesses support candidates (like Dr. Density) who undermine the school tax base, ignore the problems of turning Huntington into an urban setting and ignore the lack of code enforcement in in our town, I cannot join in the shop local sentiment. Before we answer the emotional plea of a local business to support them, you should know what they support for our town.
