Introducing Ron Schankin – HMFD Fire Commissioner Candidate

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ron Schankin and I am running for Huntington Manor Fire District Commissioner. I live in Huntington Station with my wife of 22 years, Patti, and our 4 children. Commissioners are responsible for apparatus, equipment and buildings used by the fire department and to ensure our residents receive the best services possible. I regularly attend board meetings and am aware of the current issues and topics the district is dealing with. I have been involved in the fire service for over 30 years as both a volunteer and paid firefighter. I am currently a fire safety educator for the fire department and have taught over 1,000 children fire safety in the Huntington and South Huntington School Districts, as well as local nursery schools. I am also involved in the community as a soccer coach, baseball coach and currently serve on the St. Hugh’s/ St. Elizabeth’s Little League Board of Directors. I feel my community involvement and dedication, as well as my experience in the fire service would allow me to serve as an effective Fire Commissioner.
