Four Injured in East Northport House Fire
The East Northport Fire Department was dispatched to an early morning house fire Wednesday, January 4, at 5:13 a.m., on Town Line Road near Franconia Road. Battling sub-freezing temperatures, 65 firefighters from six departments responded with five engines, a heavy rescue truck, ladder truck and five ambulances. Three residents were injured including two suffering burns and one with an ankle injury. One of the burn victims was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center by Suffolk Police Medivac. The other victims were transported to Huntington Hospital. An East Northport firefighter also sustained minor burns fighting the fire, and was treated and released from the hospital. Mutual aid responded from Commack, Northport, Kings Park, Greenlawn, and Centerport fire departments, and the Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The fire was controlled within an hour, under the command of East Northport Fire Chief Michael Tarantino, with support from Assistant Chiefs Joseph Ervin and Wayne Kaifler, Jr. There were eight residents in the home, and all except one managed to escape the blaze before firefighters arrived. Firefighters assisted in removing the remaining resident who was asleep. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Town of Huntington Fire Marshal are investigating.
