Suffolk Police to Announce Pharmacy Safety Initiative

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Edward Webber will hold a press conference today to announce a comprehensive program that will focus on pharmacy safety.  It will be held Monday, January 9 at 11:00 a.m. at Suffolk County Police Head quarters, 30 Yaphank Avenue in Yaphank.

The department’s three-pronged Pharmacy Safety Initiative is being launched to help protect members of our community and pharmacy personnel against potential robberies. The program also focuses on training law enforcement and pharmacy employees to help decrease robberies, illegal drug use and abuse.

 The three-pronged approach consists of:

  • ·        Training of police and pharmacy personnel
  • ·        Increased Crime Stoppers reward for pharmacy robbery arrests
  • ·        Raising Community Awareness of Operation Medicine Cabinet

 In attendance will be Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Edward Webber, Chief of Department James Burke, and Long Island Pharmacists Society President Joanne Hoffman Beechko.
