Special Presidents’ Week Hours

From Saturday, February18, through Saturday, February 25, the mansion, marine museum, natural-history exhibits and grounds are open Monday-Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. – except Sundays. On Sundays, February 19 and 27, museum hours will be noon to 5:00 p.m. (The last mansion tour begins each day at 5:00 p.m.)

The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum Education Department will offer fun, creative workshops for children during the February 20-25 winter school break.

During that week, the Vanderbilt Museum will be open every day from Saturday, February18, through Saturday, February 25, from 11:00 to 5:00 p.m. Hours on Sunday, February 26, will be noon to 5: 00 p.m. (The last mansion tour begins each day at 5:00 p.m.)

For grades 1- 3

The workshops below will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Cost: $25 per class; $20 for members. Participants are asked to bring a bag lunch

Monday, February 20 – Castle Door Picture Frame
“Hunt” for architectural elements while visiting the Vanderbilt Mansion and make a picture frame modeled after its doors.

Tuesday, February 21 – Marine Diorama
Visit the marine museum collection and create a watercolor illustration of your favorite specimen for your diorama.

February 23 – Mummy Collar
Learn about the museum’s 3,000 year-old Egyptian mummy and create your own collar fit for a royal.

Friday, February 24 – Big Cat Mask
Come face-to-face with big cats in the Vanderbilt’s Habitat Wing and create a unique piece of art.

Pre-K and Kindergarten students
Wednesday, February 22 – Polar Friends
Learn about the creatures that live in Earth’s Arctic habitats and make your own polar puppet friends.

Children who register for the Pre-K/Kindergarten program must be accompanied by one adult. The workshop will be given from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost: $20 per child; $16 for members.
