These past few weeks, the fashion scene in New York City has been crazy-busy, even more so than usual. The reason….everyone was showing for Fashion week! This is a review of what’s ‘in’  for this coming fall,  and will be hitting the retail outlets in August 2012.

Fall Trends:
Top trends for this fall have a very back-to-the-60’s-&-70’s feel.

High-waisted is still in, and bell bottoms are back. Bottoms are in a vast assortment of prints of all kinds: zigzag, checks, plaid and funky retro patterns. Also, jackets mixing coordinating prints are a must, as is   color blocking. This time around, however, color blocking has a whole new look, and different color hues are  being used. Many sweaters, blouses and jackets are sporting a peplum at the waist, which is very flattering on figures of all sizes. Over-the-knee boots, shown in many collections, will come in a multitude of colors , as well as neutrals. Fur is once again showing up all over the runway, now in skirts and jacket sleeves. Fur can be seen in the funky bright colors of fall, and are also being colored blocked. Patterns for fall are fun and bold….the ‘in’ look will be head-to-toe in prints, and will include polka-dots, thick stripes, plaids, checks, florals and zigzag.  Colors for fall were dark, with a few surprising pops of color.

The unspoken ‘rule’ of not wearing white after Labor Day no longer applies for the coming fall season. Many designers used shades of white in their collections, in everything from dresses to head-to-toe white. Vibrant color and color blocking was all over the runway, mixing colors like teal and orange, also grey and orange. The color palette for fall 2012 ready-to-wear will consist of bright orange, rusty orange, black, grey, teal, mustard yellow and pink.
