Gannett Fleming and Sustainable Long Island are hosting a public meeting on the Brownfield Opportunity Area for Huntington Station.

In an article called Station Lied to again?, we recently reported that there was a secret plan for Huntington Station. Even more recently we learned that the Huntington EDC and Sustainable Long Island plan to move forward with these plans. There has already been $100,000 spent on the study and now they intend to spend another $250,000 to continue. The plan involves thousands of new high density housing units slated mostly for School District 3 initially. Future plans involve additional housing throughout the town. It involves 640 acres in Huntington Station. The plan has been in the works for nearly 2 years and Huntington School district officials were not made aware of it. The 136 page study does not include any information about how thousands of high density housing units will impact our already over crowded schools and how our schools will finance the extra costs related to this.
If you plan to attend, please send an e-mail to editor@thehuntingtonian. We want to get a sense of how many people plan to attend so we can suggest to Sustainable Long Island that they need to find a larger venue to hold the meeting.
