The 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards has recognized Lynn-Idora Edmond, a senior at Commack High School. Lynn was presented with a bronze Distinguished Finalist medallion to commemorate this prestigious award for outstanding acts of volunteerism.
Lynn was honored for her support of impoverished children in Haiti. She founded and organization called “Supporting Children Around the World,” which provides basic necessities and educational resources. She travels frequently to Haiti with her parents, who are Haitian immigrants. She was touched by the plight of the children there, and volunteers her time to teach English, job skills, and environmental awareness.
Based on the number of volunteer hours, Lynn has also qualified for the President’s Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country.
