Huntington School District Art Show Set for May 15-16

Art lovers have something to look forward to. The Huntington School District’s annual art show is on the horizon. It will feature everything from painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics and computer graphics to advertising, fashion design, photography and video arts.

The show is set for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 15-16 in the high school’s Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. Admission is free and open to the public. The sprawling exhibit will feature outstanding artwork created by Huntington students on every grade level. The work will feature all types of media and showcase the extensive opportunities available to students in fine and computer-generated art studies.

On Tuesday, May 15, artwork of every possible type will be exhibited throughout the day from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. A fashion show consisting of student designs will be held at 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Previous year’s fashion shows have attracted large crowds that have marveled at the exceptional creativity and workmanship of student-designers and the model’s professional presentation.

On Wednesday, May 16, the exhibits will be open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visitors are free to spend as much time viewing the show as they desire on either day.

A select number of works on display will carry ribbons of excellence, designating the pieces as being of “high merit,” in the opinion of the adjudicators. “There will be some really amazing work on display,” Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said.

On Tuesday, May 15, residents voting on the budget, capital reserve proposition and three trustee races can conveniently visit the art show either before or after casting their ballots. “Folks of all ages are invited to see the talent and creativity of our student-artists,” Mr. Polansky said.

The district’s art program has once again experienced a banner year as students have won awards in a variety of contests and shows. These award-winning works will also be on display during the May 15-16 show.
