Teen Injured in Fall While Setting Up Zip-Line
A 12-year-old Dix Hills boy suffered serious traumatic injuries after falling about 20-feet from the top of a ladder leaning against a tree while setting up a zip-line in his backyard on Landview Drive, Friday evening, May 4, at approximately 6:45 p.m. The Dix Hills Fire Department responded and Rescue Squad Paramedics treated the youth, who was taken by ambulance and transferred to a Suffolk Police Medivac helicopter that transported him to Stony Brook University Medical Center. About 30 firefighters and rescue personnel under the command of First Assistant Chief Tom Magno responded with two ambulances and three heavy rescue trucks. Firefighters and police secured the nearby helicopter landing zone at the Half Hollow Hills High School East on Vanderbilt Parkway.
