A 911 call was made on July 1 at approximately 5:00 am to report a hit and run in front of 56 West Hills Road.  An officer responded to the address.  No formal report was taken regarding the hit and run.  The reason the report was not taken is unclear.  It is possible that the owner of the car was unavailable or unwilling to have the report taken.  56 West Hills Road is a commercial property but it is believed to have  as many as 22 apartments located inside.  This information comes from various reports takes throughout the years by building inspectors.

  1. And I have to ask, these building inspectors have taken no action?
This information taken from the town website:

    Owner:
    C/O SURENDRA SHAH
    56 WEST HILLS ROAD LLC
    26 Newtown Ln
    Melville NY 11747

    .18 Acres

    Is that not overcrowding?

Yes the tax amount seems large but when divided by 22 comes to $2,000+ per apt., clearly not enough to support school district taxes per family.

This is clearly a reason why we have issues balancing the school budget, buildings like this are out of balance.

  2. There has been no action taken. A case was before the ZBA to get a proper CO. The lawyer for the landlord asked for more time and then withdrew his case. That was approximately 1 year ago. We will search to see if there has been any updates but as of last July, there was not a CO on the property and it is believed that many people are living there.

  3. And yet look how quickly Judge Hackeling ordered another landlord to comply with orders to convert his illegal apartment house back to single family in East Northport! (See Patch story this morning)

Why is it that Huntington Station never seems to get any similar action taken as quickly as this one was handled?
