Suffolk County Police and Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department helped rescue a 12-year-old boy that nearly drowned at West Neck Beach in Lloyd Harbor this evening.
Police received a 911 call at 6:37 p.m. regarding a child that had been pulled from the water at West Neck Beach, Lloyd Harbor. A 12-year-old boy who was swimming nearly drowned and was pulled from the water by a relative. Town of Huntington lifeguard, Connor Donovan, 19, of Huntington, and a nurse who was at the beach, Denise McKay from Huntington, began stabilizing the victim. Second Precinct Police Officer James Garside, a member of the department’s Advanced Life Support (ALS) Medical Crisis Action Team (MEDCAT), along with Tom Hogan, a member of the Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department, initiated advanced life support. Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department ALS provider Donna Gurtowski, EMT Travis Beach, and Suffolk Police Department MEDCAT Director, Dr. Scott Coyne, continued care of the child in the ambulance.
Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department member Jay Parker drove the ambulance that transported the child to Huntington Hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Lloyd Harbor Police also responded.
