On Friday, August 24 at approximately 9:00 p.m. Suffolk County Police arrested a woman for driving while intoxicated with two children in the vehicle. Mary L. Kimbrough, 64, was driving a 2004 Honda northbound on Commack Road at Motor Parkway in Commack. Fourth Precinct Patrol Sergeant Jay Veronko heard a loud noise coming from Kimbrough's vehicle. Veronko stopped the vehicle and discovered that the Honda's left front tire was missing. It was determined that the vehicle had been traveling on the metal rim for some distance. The two children passengers, ages 9 and 11 were upset and frightened. The children were using a cell phone to call relatives for assistance prior to the vehicle being stopped by the officers. Sergeant Veronko, assisted by Police Officer Douglas Nassisi, determined that Kimbrough was driving while intoxicated and placed her under arrest. Kimbrough had also been convicted in 2009 for driving while intoxicated. Kimbrough was charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated; With a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra's Law) and one count of Driving While Intoxicated.
