Dear Editor,
Did you know that the town of Huntington will be trying to raise the parking fees at the Long Island Railroad Station’s indoor parking garage from $50.00 per year to $600.00 per year? It seems like the best kept secret in Huntington because I travel the LIRR and the large majority of my fellow travelers haven’t heard about this. I called Mr. AJ Carter at the town hall and his advice to me was to park somewhere else. He said “He didn’t tell me to park there”.. Seriously??? We have NO representation for the LIRR traveler – who, along with facing a fare increase on the trains this January will also have to deal with $600 per year to PARK at the station.
Meanwhile there is a town hall meeting October 16th at 6pm when the town will be trying to pass this bill – when they know that the commuters WHO USE THE PARKING LOT will not be able to attend because we are all on the train at that time.
Do you think maybe you can cover this story?? PLEASE HELP….
Regards,
Marilyn Walsh
Huntington Resident

They will also be squeezing into that bill a salary increase for the entire Town Board. Oh, eliminating positions and raising other fee’s too.
Nice huh? And guess who gets to pay for all that? Lucky us! Amazing how they have no problem asking the residents to accept such a hike ($600)AND for a raise! I suggest people start dropping LIRR users at the Station and not parking at all, if feasible, they’d get THAT messsage.
See you on the 16th

I think the increase from $50/Year to $600/Year is ridiculous increase, especially in this economy. This will hit some families hard and will contribute to more people leaving Long Island. Working families can only take so much. What’s even crazier, the councilmen/women are adding a raise for themselves in the budget. Can you imagine that!

The $600 per year fee works out to $2.31 per day if you figure you’d park there 5 days a week for 52 weeks a year. Try to find garage parking that cheap anywhere else. Even if you take 4 weeks vacation it would only be $2.50 a day. Much ado for less than the cost of your average daily Starbuck’s coffee…

You can do math all you want. You cannot justify a 1200% increase.
$2.50 a day is less than your extremely over priced Starbucks coffee is not a legitimate counter argument when I AM paying .19 cents a day and already gave up buying coffee 2 years ago and started brown bagging lunch to work due to the recession.
We the people have cut back on everything we can already, we are down to the bare boned basics. If you are still getting Starbucks everyday then the recession has not hit you or you might be getting a raise at Town Hall.
