Storm Update From HUFSD Superindent Jim Polansky

Filed under: Huntington Union Free School District,News |

Good afternoon.  We continue to monitor the situation in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  Six of our eight buildings have regained power.  Flower Hill and Woodhull remain without it.  We hope to reopen Monday, however this is contingent upon power and road/transportation conditions.  Unfortunately there are still numerous roads in multiple segments of the district that are impassable.

If we do resume on Monday, Tuesday will become an instructional attendance day for students.  Please plan accordingly.  Parent/teacher conferences will be canceled.  Another call will be placed over the weekend, likely on Sunday, with an additional update and/or confirmation.

Please note the following postponements or cancellations:
* SAT/SAT II at Huntington High School postponed from tomorrow (11/3) to Saturday, 11/17
* Driver Education for tomorrow (11/3) canceled
* Weekend playoff games postponed, new dates to be announced when released by Section XI
* Huntington High School Open House scheduled for Monday postponed, new date to be announced next week.

Please note that our e-mail system is not yet restored due to a downed fiber optic cable on a community road.  Our district website remains intact and updates posted at www.hufsd.edu.  Be reminded that daylight savings time ends and clocks are to be turned back at 2:00 AM on Sunday.  I hope you and your families are recovering from the storm safely and that those without power regain it as quickly as possible.

Superintendent Of Schools
