The Nickolas Demidovich Memorial Fund Inc. will host its 2nd annual Chili Cook-Off Contest on Saturday, February 9 from 7 p.m. to midnight at The Huntington Elks Lodge, 195 Main Street, Huntington, NY. Proceeds will benefit local Huntington boy scouts.
“Our annual Chili Cook-Off Contest supports The Nickolas Demidovich Memorial Fund which helps send Boy Scouts to Boy Scout camp and allows them to participate in scouting activities that would otherwise be unaffordable for their families,” explained Peter Demidovich, co-founder of the Fund and the Elks Leading Knight. The mission of the Nickolas Demidovich Memorial Fund is to raise funds and distribute money to disadvantaged boy scouts participating in Boy Scouts of America in order to allow them to attend Boy Scout camp and participate in all the activities that would otherwise be unaffordable for them to attend. “The cook-off provides an opportunity to enjoy an evening of food, fun and fundraising while doing something special for these worthy children,” Demidovich continued. Last year’s event, along with the Fund’s annual Pancake Breakfast, raised enough money to send several scouts to camp. Assistance this year will expand to include support for field trips or purchases of uniforms and required supplies.
The event will include local “celebrity judges”, including returning judges “Fingers” from WBAB FM radio station, Jim Savalli of the Village Connection Magazine, and Larry Kushnick, Chairman-Elect of the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce. Two new judges will include Danny Schrafel of Dine Huntington and Robert Gaun, Huntington Elks Exalted Ruler.
Tickets are $20 per guest and will include “all-you-can-eat” chili and fixings, hot dogs, salad and more. The contest competition entry is $10. Award categories include: Most Spicy, Most Creative, Healthiest, Best Decorated Chili Station and Best Overall. There will be two opportunities to win each category – the guest or “crowd” favorites and the “local celebrity” judge favorites. Prizes will be awarded to all contestants. The event will include Live DJ and Dancing, drink specials, 50/50 Raffle and spectacular Raffle Baskets designed by Catherine Demidovich Bone.
Entry fee must be post marked no later than Feb. 5. and checks made payable to: The Nickolas Demidovich Memorial Fund Inc., 11 Rainer Street, Melville, NY 11747. The Nickolas Demidovich Memorial Fund Inc. is a non-profit which honors the memory and legacy of Nickolas Demidovich, husband, father, grandfather and member of the Huntington Elks Lodge No. 1565. Nickolas was the Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 106 for almost 30 years. For information, contact Peter Demidovich at (516) 983-5109 or e-mail Peter@peterdemidovich.com.
