Assemblyman Andrew Raia recently visited the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday as part of the UJA-Federation’s annual Long Island Legislative Reception. The event, which garnered donations of nonperishable kosher products to stock the shelves of the Long Island food pantries in UJA-Federation’s network of agencies, was a part of the National Education Association (NEA)’s Read Across America program, which promotes the personal and educational benefits of reading to children in and around Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2.

“The UJA-Federation does tremendous work for families across Long Island, and this year’s legislative reception was one of their best events yet,” said Raia. “Not only was the food drive successful, but we were able to speak to local children about how fun and educational reading can be. I thank all involved for organizing this event, which benefited not only our local food pantries, but Long Island’s children as well.”
