Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Dix Hills.  The accident occurred on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 5:16 pm.

Lance Russell was operating a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle south on Carlls Straight Path in Dix Hills when he crossed the double yellow line to pass southbound vehicles. He collided with a 2005 Ford dump truck, operated by Joseph Femia, who was turning left into his driveway. Russell was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries. Russell, 23, of Carlls Straight Path, Dix Hills, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip by Dix Hills Rescue Company. Femia, 47, was not injured.

Motor Carrier Safety Section responded and performed a safety inspection on the dump truck. The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check.
