Kindergarten students of Harley Avenue Primary School combined their study of animals and the five senses as they enjoyed a special classroom visit from Eric Young of the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown. Mr. Young brought along a variety of animal species, including a rabbit, a screech owl, a walking stick, two turtles and a ball python. Through the exploration of these species, students learned how the animals use their senses to adapt to their surroundings and survive in the wilderness.
“This PTA-sponsored program is an enrichment to our spring unit on birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians,” said Harley teacher KeriAnn Colmone. “It gives the students a great opportunity to get up close to the animals and it’s a wonderful way to end the unit!”
