The eighth annual Huntington Folk Festival is slated for Saturday, July 20, 2013. The free event will extend from 12 noon into the late evening at Heckscher Park, Main Street (Route 25A) and Prime Avenue, in Huntington, New York.
“We’re delighted to join with the Huntington Arts Council in presenting what promises to be a wonderful day of music,” said Michael Kornfeld, president of the Folk Music Society of Huntington.
Headlining this year’s festival will be Yonkers, NY-based Americana-roots ensemble Spuyten Duyvil, whose barn burning, rabble rousing live shows — blending traditional jug band energy with amped-up lap steel guitar and Chicago-style harp blues and featuring an eclectic mix of riveting traditional and original songs — have caught the attention of respected folk music DJs and prominent American roots music promoters.
Opening the evening concert on the Chapin Rainbow Stage, beginning at 8:30 p.m., will be Long Island’s own Marci Geller (a piano-based contemporary singer-songwriter with folk sensibilities) and singer-songwriter and guitarist Josh Joffen (a two-time Kerrville New Folk Winner and 2011 Great American Song Contest Winner). The two will be joined in a song swap by Marshal Rosenberg on percussion.
An afternoon of unplugged showcases and song swaps, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., featuring artists from the New York metropolitan area and beyond will precede the concert. Hosting them near canopy tents will be Acoustic Live! in New York City and Beyond and AcousticMusicScene.com.
