Centerport Fire Department volunteers responded to a fire at the Thatched Cottage Caterers on East Main Street, Tuesday night, August 6, at around 11:52 p.m. First arriving firefighters made entry and found a heavy smoke condition inside the building. The fire involved bundles of linens and rags in a lower level laundry room, and was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system. Centerport firefighters doused and overhauled the room, and used fans to clear the smoke from the building. The fire damage was confined to the laundry room and contents. About 40 Centerport firefighters were on the scene with two engines, a ladder truck, heavy rescue truck, and two ambulances. The Greenlawn Fire Department assisted with an additional engine and crew. The fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Town of Huntington Fire Marshal.
