Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 2pm – 4pm in the Small Meeting Room at the Cold Spring Harbor Library & Environmental Center, 95 Harbor Road, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724.
Caring for an elderly loved one can be difficult. There are many decisions to make and it is hard to know where to find good resources. The Senior Umbrella Network of Suffolk (SUN) is a non-profit group that provides networking opportunities among professionals serving seniors, member education, and advocacy for seniors and community outreach. SUN will help you with questions about home care assistance for a family member or yourself. They will also explain the differences between various types of home care agencies, and who accepts Medicare and Medicaid.
Please register at the Cold Spring Harbor Library Information Services Desk, by phone at 631-692-6820 or online at www.cshlibrary.org.
“Home health care helps seniors live independently for as long as possible, given the limits of their medical condition. It covers a wide range of services and may delay the need for long-term nursing home care. More specifically, home health care may include occupational and physical therapy, speech therapy, and even skilled nursing. It may involve helping the elderly with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Or it may include assistance with cooking, cleaning, other housekeeping jobs, and monitoring one’s daily regimen of prescription and over-the-counter medications.” – Dept of Health and Human Services
