The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident after a car exiting the Northern State Parkway at Commack Road crashed into a wooded area near Vanderbilt Parkway, Saturday night, December 7, at around 8:45 p.m. Firefighters used chainsaws to cut trees in order to gain access to the car, and then pryed open a door with the “jaws of life” extrication tools. The male driver suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad. About 25 firefighters and rescue personnel were dispatched with two heavy rescue trucks, two ambulances, paramedic and first responder units, under the command of Chief Tom Magno and Assistant Chiefs Tom Napolitano and Alan Berkowitz.
