FADO Restaurant is a cozy, intimate and authentic Portuguese/American Cuisine Restaurant. When I walked into the restaurant and turned left I realized what Proprietor Alison Nobre means by cozy and intimate. I was greeted with a big smile by the wonderful and beautiful Emily who showed us to our table by the window. There are 8 – 12 tables, depending on the size of the party and a nice long bar to the side. Very cozy and intimate, but I was wondering how they can accommodate more than a handful of people with so few tables. Much to my surprise, there is an upstairs that can accommodate 60 – 70 guests. This area can also be used for private parties of between 10 and 70 guests. Very roomy upstairs.
I recommend that you listen very carefully to Emily as she recites the daily specials which always includes a whole fresh fish catch of the day. The menu has daily specials but Emily has even more to explain. I was quite impressed by the servers knowledge of the food and how it is prepared in authentic Portuguese style. Eduardo Nobre, one of the owners is Portuguese and speaks 7 languages. He started FADO about three and a half years ago and they are very busy most nights, so reservations are recommended though not required.
After listening to all the specials and reviewing the menu I decided to have the Sunday Special which was the “Traditional Fejoida” (pronounced Fesh-Wad-a) which was a stew like casserole consisting of different sausages and broccoli cob in a savory sauce. Warm bread was served Portuguese style in a cloth bag. This “Pratos Do Dia” (Plate of the Day) included a House Salad and a Glass of FADO Wine all for $28.00. Well worth the cost. I had the red wine which was very dry, fresh and tasty. Gracie (9 years old) decided to go on the “American Cuisine” side and had Chicken Fingers and French fries. So don’t be shy if your night out includes children! The staff will do everything they can to make even the youngest guests feel comfy.
Emily offered a variety of Portuguese Juices but gave her the diet coke she wanted.
FADO has a complete catering menu and for the months of December and January is offering a 10% Catering Discount, so if you want a very special and deliciously exotic meal for your guests at home for the holidays, give Eduardo and Alison a call!
