Long Island Children’s Choir – Long Island’s premier chorus for music-loving students, regardless of socioeconomic backgrounds – today announced audition dates for the upcoming 2014 spring season.  Auditions will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Five Towns College in Dix Hills.

The ensemble-in-residence at Five Town’s College, LICC offers children opportunities to experience the joy of singing at a time when many music and arts programs at school districts across Long Island are shrinking or at risk due to budget cuts. With its inaugural season launched in September 2013, the program is designed to enhance the musical education students are already receiving, whether they are educated in public or private schools, or educated at home.

LICC’s three choral ensembles include Prelude, for grades 1 through 4; Harmonia, for intermediate and advanced singers in grades 5 through 12; and Lyric, for advanced singers in grades 7 through 12. Acceptance is by audition only, and teacher recommendations are required.

“We are thrilled to hold auditions for our 2014 spring season,” said LICC Co-founder Jennifer Shaer. “Long Island Children’s Choir is already making an impact, having performed for an audience at a New York Islanders game in January, and we have big plans on the horizon for each of our ensembles in the months ahead.”

The spring season is an exciting one, including performances scheduled at the Dix Hills Performing Arts Center and at a LI Ducks game.

Rehearsals are held weekly. Prelude meets Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m., under the direction of Christa Braunreuther. Harmonia meets Wednesdays from 6:00-7:15 p.m., under the direction of Colleen Regan. Lyric meets Wednesdays from 7:30-8:45 p.m., under the direction of Colleen Regan.

Tuition is per semester. The fall semester is September through January, while the spring semester runs February through June. The fee for Prelude is $225, Harmonia is $250 and Lyric is $275. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.
