Harborfields High School Music Coordinator Receives Prestigious Honor

Congratulations to Harborfields High School’s Music Department Coordinator Daniel Bilawsky who was recently selected by the School Band and Orchestra Magazine to represent New York in its 22nd annual “50 Directors Who Make a Difference.”

Directors are nominated by students, parents, colleagues, retailers, administrators, friends or even former band directors who may have taught them in the past. Only one director per state is awarded the prestigious honor each year. “This is truly an impressive accomplishment, “Superintendent of School Dr. Francesco Ianni said.

Throughout Mr. Bilawsky’s 21 years of teaching, he said that his proudest moment as an educator occurred back in 2017 when the high school’s jazz band performed on the banks of the Mississippi River as part of the Loyola University Jazz Festival in New Orleans.

But, looking beyond a single moment, he said that he takes great pride in helping students unlock their musical potential. “I aim to make a difference by teaching my students that education isn’t confined to the four walls of a classroom,” he said. “…I aim to help them move out of their comfort zones so they can grow as individuals.”
