Lowe’s – Pulling Out
The Town was notified last week that Lowe’s is stopping their construction of a new location on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station. Lowe’s had announced recently that they were going to scale back on new store openings and close some under-performing stores. Lowe’s had purchased the 17.5 acre former site of the Huntington Town House on June 20, 2007 for an estimated $35 million.
This is certainly an unfortunate turn of events. The ground breaking was this past July. Lowe’s has some work to do at the site in order to secure it until it is sold. We hope that it can become the new home for another commercial venture as there is already enough housing stock unsold in Huntington.
