Northport Man Dies After Last Week’s Car Crash

Douglas Caldwell, who was critically injured after he lost control of his 2005 Nissan in Hauppauge on March 10, died of his injuries at Stony Brook University Hospital.

On March 10, 2013, Mr. Caldwell was driving his 2005 Nissan traveling eastbound on Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge at approximately 4:10 a.m. According to witnesses the vehicle lost control and entered the center divider. The vehicle struck a tree, overturned and crashed. Officers and witnesses attempted to pull Caldwell out of the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. Firefighters from the Commack Fire Department responded and pulled him from the car.

He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. Unfortunately he passed away at 12:37 a.m. on March 15. Mr. Caldwell was 47 years old and lived in Northport on Layne Way.
