Recorder Orchestra of New York
Saturday, November 3, 2013 from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm at the Cold Spring Harbor Library & Environmental Center, 95 Harbor Road, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724.
For those of you who think of the recorder as solely a plastic instrument introduced in elementary school, you will be in for a big surprise! The recorder is an ancient instrument with music composed by a range of serious composers for both solo and chamber ensembles. The orchestra members play all sizes of the recorder from the six inch garklein to the six foot contrabass, and perform Renaissance, Baroque and contemporary music styles.
The Recorder Orchestra of New York was organized in 1994 by a group of professional and experienced amateur recorder players under the leadership of Ken Andresen, founding music director. After directing the orchestra for seven years, Ken handed his baton to Stan Davis who was director until 2002. RONY performs primarily on Long Island but also presents concerts in New York City and Connecticut. In July, 2001, the orchestra completed a highly successful tour of England.
Come to the library to hear the Recorder Orchestra of New York, you will be delighted!
