Mascali Image 2Having a craving for Italian food and fresh pasta, I decided to try Mascali Restaurant in East Northport, which is adjacent to and a part of Larkfield Pasta at 277 Larkfield Road, south of Pulaski on the east side of the street.

At first I had a difficult time finding it but am I glad I did! As I walked into the restaurant I was greeted by the hostess who was the owner’s daughter and introduced to my server, Genie.  I immediately felt welcome and right at home. It was lunchtime so I didn’t want to sample the wine list and had intended to just have a light meal. Forget that!  I ordered the spaghetti pasta with Bolognese sauce and it was enough for three meals!  Absolutely delicious sauce!  I also ordered a side of meatballs and sausage, wanting to sample each. Genie brought out the entree very quickly as well as fresh warm bread.  Once I started eating I decided a glass of wine was necessary so I ordered a glass of merlot.  It was absolute perfection!

After lunch (I brought home enough for diner the next night.) there was no way I could have dessert, all of which looked scrumptious!

They feature a take out “Gravy Dinner Pot” which is very unique.  Although they advertise it will feed four, I think 5 – 6 is an easy reach.  The cost of $39.99 includes a large stainless steel pot (which you must return and retrieve your $30 deposit) filled with the sauce and meat of your choice, and two pounds of pasta made fresh onsite! Freeze it right in the pot or just heat it up and have a great homemade dinner!  It’s a wonderful idea and much better than fast food or pizza for almost the same cost. Simply return the pot for a refill or keep it.  It’s worth $30 bucks easily!

I absolutely recommend you try this fascinating restaurant!  Ask Chef Jim for a tour of his pasta making equipment which you will find very interesting.  Making unique fresh pasta is Chef Jim’s passion and it shows!
