By Michael McDermott
Rose Maffia recently celebrated her 103 birthday. The celebration took place at The APEX Rehabilitation Care Center, located at 78 Birchwood Drive in South Huntington. Rose, although confined to a wheelchair after two falling incidents at home causing both hips to be broken, was ready and raring to get up and dance to the singing and music of vocalist mauriceonvocals@aol.com.
In attendance were her sons, Joseph 80, Alfred 77, Robert 68, her grandson Michael 52, her daughter-in-law Lucy and about 100 residents.
The entire staff of the Rehabilitation Center from Al at the reception desk to Angie who was serving the cake were wonderful and very happy to party with Rose. Cake and punch were served, as well as jelly doughnuts from Brooklyn.
Selma Wallen, 94 was especially happy to share her love for Rose and the facility. I had the sense that all these wonderful people are very well taken care of and they love to share their thoughts with visitors.
